Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Vocational/Human Resources Intern to join our team at Skookum. As a Vocational/Human Resources Intern, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of professionals who are dedicated to creating opportunities for people with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist current Skookum employees with disabilities in achieving their job goals and objectives.
  • Learn about compliance requirements and regulations for the Vocational department.
  • Work with people of all abilities, including job shadowing Vocational Specialists, HR, and Recruiters.
  • Develop and present trainings for employees, supervisors, and leads on various topics, including disabilities, accommodations, life skills, diversity, career development, and confidentiality.
  • Work directly with employees who have disabilities, including job coaching, assisting employees in crisis, and identifying accommodations.
  • Assist with new hire on-boarding process, including writing Job Support plans and employee summaries.
  • Write participating employee eligibility and employee information forms for the AbilityOne program.
  • Work on a collaborative intern cohort team project.
  • Partner with employees and management to communicate and assist with training on human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations.
  • Learn how to work with managers on employee relation issues, concerns, and union issues.
  • Learn how to work with Supervisors and Managers on disciplinary actions and writing formal documentation.
  • Partner with Hiring Managers and HR Partners to understand position requirements and KSA's needed for open positions.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and assist with interviews as needed.
  • Prescreen candidates by reviewing resumes and credentials for appropriateness of skills, experience, and knowledge in relation to position requirements.
  • Attend job fairs and outreach events as needed.
Requirements
  • Preferably in the process of obtaining a BA/BS in Social Services, Human Resources, or a closely related field.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
  • Computer data management and word processing skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of confidentiality, time management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum's insurance.
  • Present yourself with a positive and professional attitude.
