Position Overview

American Humane is in search of a seasoned Director of Marketing. This role is designed to be hybrid and will report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer. Role Summary:

The Director of Marketing will be instrumental in furthering American Humane's mission to safeguard and care for animals worldwide. This influential and high-visibility position entails collaborating closely with senior leadership to develop American Humane's B2B and B2C branding strategy, positioning, and messaging while addressing the needs of the organization’s constituents and striving to meet ambitious growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and enhance B2B and B2C marketing initiatives across multiple channels, including digital platforms, events, content marketing, influencer partnerships, and account-based marketing (ABM).
  • Create and maintain high-quality marketing and sales materials that effectively convey the value of our programs and services.
  • Lead localization efforts for global marketing content.
  • Collaborate with Development, Communications, and Business Development teams to optimize websites, social media, and search marketing for fundraising campaigns, media outreach, and significant events.
  • Assist in the solicitation of corporate partnerships.
  • Implement and oversee lead generation strategies, including forms, chatbots, landing pages, email sequences, and conversion rate optimization.
  • Coordinate the production of thought leadership content, including whitepapers, case studies, articles, research, and blog posts.
  • Plan, execute, and refine digital marketing campaigns to enhance brand awareness and lead generation.
  • Evaluate campaign performance and modify strategies to maximize return on investment (ROI).
  • Develop strategies to nurture leads through the sales and business development pipeline.
  • Organize participation in industry events, trade shows, webinars, and conferences, including identifying potential speaking opportunities on a global scale.
  • Formulate event strategies aligned with growth objectives.
  • Oversee the creation and upkeep of marketing and sales assets, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines.
  • Manage relationships with external creative agencies and vendors.
  • Ensure websites are current, user-friendly, and optimized for search engines.
  • Guide social media strategies to enhance brand visibility and engagement.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or a related discipline; an MBA is advantageous.
  • Over 10 years of marketing experience in both B2B and B2C sectors.
  • More than 5 years of experience in people management.
  • Demonstrated success in demand generation, pipeline acceleration, and revenue enhancement.
  • Strong comprehension of digital marketing channels and tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in content creation and thought leadership.
  • Proficiency in marketing automation and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Strong project management capabilities with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to cultivate cross-functional relationships, influence, and collaborate at all organizational levels.
  • Creative thinker with a strategic outlook.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when managing sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Work Environment:
  • This position will involve a hybrid work model, with responsibilities based out of the Washington, DC office and a regular telework schedule as per organizational policy and managerial discretion.
  • Comfort with animals, particularly dogs, is essential in the office and at events.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Weekend or evening work hours may be necessary.
  • While performing the duties of this role, the employee will frequently be required to:
    • Engage with a computer screen for extended periods.
    • Communicate effectively over the telephone, video conferencing, and in person.
