The City of Tacoma is seeking a Senior Energy Efficiency Engineer to enhance the operations of its Power Management division within the Business Customer Energy Solutions team.

In this pivotal role, you will design and implement energy conservation initiatives while ensuring the adoption of energy-efficient practices among Tacoma Power's commercial and industrial clientele through comprehensive engineering assessments.

This position plays a vital role in meeting energy conservation objectives and delivering essential energy-related services tailored for the commercial and industrial sectors.


Key Responsibilities:

- Deliver technical assistance to customers by executing energy assessments for refrigeration systems, industrial operations, compressed air, water and wastewater systems, HVAC systems, pumping and ventilation systems, motors and drives, lighting, and domestic water systems.
- Evaluate calculations, energy analysis reports, and proposals submitted by external consultants and other stakeholders.
- Develop or assess computer-based energy simulation models for complex commercial structures.
- Offer specifications, recommendations, and comprehensive engineering analyses; conduct economic evaluations of energy efficiency options.
- Establish detailed measurement and verification protocols and assess the energy performance of implemented efficiency projects.
- Advocate for efficiency services to clients. Conduct field audits and inspections, engaging directly with customers and trade partners such as engineering firms.
- Provide specialized technical insights on energy conservation strategies and technologies.

- Investigate and evaluate technical data, emerging energy concepts, products, and processes relevant to the industrial and commercial building sectors; prepare detailed briefs and reports.

- Research, develop, and execute energy efficiency programs, services, and policies aimed at the commercial and industrial sectors.


Minimum Qualifications:

- A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field; a degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.

- A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience.


Licensing and Certifications:

- A valid Washington State Driver's License is required.
- Note: 1 year of experience is equivalent to 1 year of education.

Essential competencies for this role include exceptional customer service, effective communication, adaptability in ambiguous situations, resourcefulness, results-driven mindset, and collaborative spirit.

Experience in commercial HVAC system design, construction, and/or commissioning is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Washington State Energy Code and other industry standards is preferred.
