Position Overview

The City of Tacoma's Public Works Department is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Traffic Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in addressing the transportation engineering requirements within the city, as well as supporting various capital projects and initiatives at every stage of development and execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform and oversee professional engineering tasks related to traffic engineering operations.
  • Support the systematic implementation of the City’s Transportation Master Plan through capital project design and review.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams, including contractors and community stakeholders, to enhance transportation systems.
  • Conduct thorough traffic engineering analyses and provide innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and promote equitable access for all users of the transportation network.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of professional engineering experience.
  • Washington State Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain through reciprocity.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong technical knowledge in traffic engineering principles and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and capacity to make independent decisions.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in project management and able to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently.
