Position Summary: The role involves delivering exceptional customer service while efficiently operating the cash register to process various transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome customers within proximity and engage them by name when possible during transactions.
  • Assist customers in weighing and ringing up items for purchase.
  • Efficiently bag groceries, minimizing the number of bags used.
  • Check for items at the bottom of the shopping basket.
  • Ensure accurate verification and balancing of the cash register at the start and end of each shift.
  • Process payments from customers in various forms including cash, credit, debit, EBT, and checks.
  • Verify and process WIC checks, purchase orders, merchandise certificates, and coupons.
  • Check identification for age-restricted purchases and follow established procedures for payment verification.
  • Maintain register accuracy and adhere to company performance standards and pricing integrity.
  • Restock bag wells at the front end and keep the workstation clean and organized through regular cleaning.
  • Perform duties of a courtesy clerk as needed.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the manager.

Capabilities:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds and performing repetitive motions for ringing up and bagging items.
  • Ability to push and pull shopping carts during customer assistance.
  • Adhere to proper safety protocols.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Strong communication and observational skills.

Job Skills:

  • Previous experience in customer-facing roles is preferred.
  • Basic math skills and cash handling experience are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with produce codes and the ability to distinguish between various produce items is required.

Work Environment:

The work environment is air-conditioned while inside the store, with exposure to outdoor elements such as heat, rain, and wind during customer assistance. The role is fast-paced and may involve working in cooler temperatures when retrieving chilled products.

Additional Information:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old to operate the cash register as per company policy.
