Position Overview

For over 126 years, Epworth Children's Home has been dedicated to evolving and responding to the unique needs of children and families by offering a secure and supportive atmosphere, employing evidence-based methodologies, and delivering comprehensive programs throughout South Carolina.

Role Summary:

The Community Support Specialist employs the Homebuilders Model to deliver a broad spectrum of services aimed at equipping family members with essential tools to effectively avert out-of-home placements or facilitate reunification services. This role involves utilizing training and supervision to implement a proven, evidence-based framework.

Instruction is provided through direct methods, typically encompassing the following elements: skill presentation, modeling, role-playing, constructive feedback, coaching, and positive reinforcement. A deep understanding of the systems that support families, including legal, social services, healthcare, and educational systems, is essential. The specialist will consult and advocate with other service providers as necessary to assist family members in achieving their objectives.

Collaboration with children, youth, and families is key, working as a partner to successfully reach the goals established by the family, guiding them towards their personal definition of success.

Qualifications:

A Master's degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a related human services field is required.

A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related human services field, accompanied by a minimum of 2 years of direct social service experience, is also acceptable.


Candidates should possess a belief system and engage in faith practices that align with those of the United Methodist Church.

Successful candidates must pass standard background checks, including drug screening, employment physicals, SLED, DSS Central Registry, and Sex Offenders Registry.

A clean driving record is mandatory.

Bilingual abilities are preferred.
