We are seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Director of the Jack and Shirley Silver Special Collections Library at the University of Vermont. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction, foster a collaborative environment, and drive innovation in the library's collections, services, and outreach programs.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Vision: Develop and implement a comprehensive vision for the Silver Special Collections Library, aligning with the University Libraries' strategic initiatives and the University's mission.
- Collection Development and Management: Oversee the acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of rare books, manuscripts, and digital collections, ensuring their accessibility and relevance to the academic community.
- Teaching and Research: Collaborate with faculty and students to develop and deliver instruction programs, promoting the use of special collections materials in research and teaching.
- Outreach and Engagement: Develop and implement outreach strategies to promote the library's collections and services, engaging with the campus community, scholars, and the broader public.
- Staff Supervision and Development: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of librarians and staff, fostering a culture of excellence, diversity, and inclusion.
- Financial Management: Manage endowment and gift funds, ensuring the library's financial sustainability and growth.
- Master's Degree: A Master's degree in Library Science or a related field from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
- Leadership Experience: Proven leadership and management experience in a library or related field, with a track record of innovation and collaboration.
- Collection Development and Management: Experience in collection development, management, and preservation, with a strong understanding of rare books, manuscripts, and digital collections.
- Teaching and Research: Experience in teaching and research, with a strong commitment to promoting the use of special collections materials in academic programs.
- Outreach and Engagement: Experience in outreach and engagement, with a strong ability to develop and implement effective outreach strategies.
- Financial Management: Experience in financial management, with a strong ability to manage endowment and gift funds.
- Second Graduate Degree: A second graduate degree in a related field.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English.
- Grant Writing and Management: Experience in grant writing and management, with a strong ability to secure funding for library initiatives.
