Job Summary

This position serves as the Chief Assessor for the City of South Burlington, responsible for the overall management, administration, and collection of municipal taxes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the valuation of all real property for the City and maintain the accuracy of the Grand List.
  • Develop and maintain financial and accounting records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.
  • Manage municipal tax collection program and processes, including billing, processing payments, and handling delinquencies.
  • Conduct market analyses and periodic property reappraisals to ensure accurate assessments.
  • Defend property assessment appeals before various boards and courts as necessary.
Requirements
  • Assist in preparing departmental budgets in collaboration with the Finance Director and City Manager.
  • Keep an up-to-date centralized listing of all City capital assets and track accounting data related to grants, loans, and non-property tax funding.
  • Provide support and coordination of activities between staff and departments within the City.
  • Perform responsible accounting duties requiring judgment and analysis within prescribed policies and generally accepted accounting principles.
