Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Systems Engineer to lead our team in the design, development, and implementation of advanced spacecraft and subsystems. As the Lead Spacecraft Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in defining the architectures of our next-generation satellite systems and driving the success of our space missions.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the conceptualization, trade studies, design, and development of spacecraft concepts and their subsystems, including propulsion, power, thermal, communications, avionics, and structural subsystems.
- Manage and develop technical budgets and logical decomposition.
- Interface management.
- Technical requirements definition.
- Technology roadmap.
- Record and communicate design and design decisions.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to multidisciplinary teams of engineers throughout the entire spacecraft development lifecycle, from initial concept to mission deployment.
- Coordinate system integration activities and lead spacecraft testing efforts to ensure compliance with performance specifications, safety standards, and mission objectives.
- Identify potential risks and technical challenges associated with spacecraft systems and develop mitigation strategies to address them effectively.
- Foster collaboration and communication with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure alignment of spacecraft systems with mission requirements and objectives.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in spacecraft engineering and actively contribute to the development of innovative solutions and methodologies.
- Provide input on project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure timely delivery of spacecraft systems within scope and budget constraints.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Significant hands-on experience on a small to medium-sized satellite development project, ideally having been involved in at least one end-to-end satellite design-to-flight lifecycle.
- Proven track record of at least 12+ years in spacecraft systems engineering, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.
- Expertise in spacecraft systems design, integration, testing, and operations, with a deep understanding of relevant technologies, methodologies, and industry standards.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop engineering teams to achieve excellence and innovation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Experience in supporting project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation, with a focus on delivering high-quality results on time and within budget.
- Knowledge of spacecraft mission requirements, regulations, and safety standards, with a commitment to ensuring compliance and mission success.
- Creative problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges and risks.
At Capella Space, we offer a competitive salary range of $145,100 - $192,290, depending on experience and qualifications.
