Job Overview

Position Title: Supported Employment Specialist

Qualifications Required: Candidates must be at least 18 years old; a Bachelor's Degree is mandatory. Preference will be given to those who are at least 21 years old with a minimum of one year of experience in providing services to individuals with Developmental Disabilities (DD) or Intellectual Disabilities (ID). Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening is essential. A valid social security card or work permit for non-U.S. citizens, along with a valid driver's license free of moving violations, is required.

Working Hours: Standard hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with the possibility of evening and weekend shifts as necessary.

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Supported Employment Specialist Supervisor and/or the Program Director.

Role Summary: The Supported Employment Specialist is responsible for providing on-the-job assistance to individuals who require support after their funding from Vocational Rehabilitation has been utilized.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise individuals at their workplace.
  • Deliver training and educational support at the job site and in additional settings as required.
  • Communicate effectively with all team members involved with the individual (including Case Managers, Behavior Specialists, Therapists, etc.).
  • Maintain honesty and integrity in interactions with individuals.
  • Establish a respectful and trusting relationship with individuals.
  • Provide behavioral support and be knowledgeable about the individual's behavior plan.
  • Monitor for unusual behaviors and collect relevant data.
  • Administer medications and be aware of their side effects.
  • Document medication errors accurately and appropriately.
  • Recognize incidents, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
  • Prevent and report any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Adhere to legal obligations regarding the reporting of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual), neglect, and exploitation.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to form a cohesive team.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation, including billing, accurately and promptly.
  • Advocate for the rights of individuals.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the individuals you work with.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills.
  • Show initiative in all assigned tasks.
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrate reliability and punctuality.
  • Practice patience and understanding.
  • Maintain awareness of the individual's location at all times.
  • Utilize positive and non-stigmatizing language.
  • Show respect for all colleagues and individuals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Physical capability to reach, push, pull, stoop, stand, walk, and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License, maintenance of a safe driving record, and adherence to the minimum vehicle insurance requirements for the State of Kentucky, if necessary for job performance.
  • Completion of training requirements within specified time frames as per SCL waiver and DMR Standards and Procedures.
  • Compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Understanding and promotion of the DDID vision statement.
  • A TB Risk Assessment must be completed and submitted to Personnel within 7 days of hire.

While executing the responsibilities of this position, the employee may occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions, may be required to work off-site from the normal office location, or may be placed at a Residential Program.

The noise level in the work environment is typically mild to moderate.

  • Work hours are structured in 7.5 or 8.0 hour blocks but may be subject to irregular and/or flexible hours based on operational needs.
  • This position may involve routine or anticipated tasks or procedures that carry a degree of actual or potential exposure to blood or other infectious materials.
  • All staff are required to participate in annual training on infection control and safety in the workplace, including hazardous waste and bloodborne pathogens.
  • New staff must complete training on managing physical and verbal threats, acts of violence, or other escalating and potentially dangerous situations, including when police intervention may be necessary.
