Job Overview

Position Title: Supported Employment Specialist

Qualifications: Candidates must be at least 18 years old; a Bachelor's Degree is mandatory. Preference will be given to those who are at least 21 years old with a minimum of one year of experience in providing services to individuals with Developmental Disabilities/Intellectual Disabilities. Applicants must successfully complete a criminal background check and a drug screening. A valid social security card or work permit for non-U.S. citizens, along with a valid driver's license free of moving violations, is required.

Work Schedule: Standard hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with potential evening and weekend shifts as necessary.

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Supported Employment Specialist Supervisor and/or Program Director.

Role Summary: The Supported Employment Specialist is responsible for providing on-the-job assistance to individuals who require support after their Vocational Rehabilitation funding has been utilized.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise individuals at their job sites.
  • Deliver training and educational support at the workplace and other relevant locations.
  • Communicate effectively with all team members involved with the individual (including Case Managers, Behavior Specialists, Therapists, etc.).
  • Maintain honesty and integrity in interactions with individuals.
  • Establish a respectful and trusting relationship with individuals.
  • Provide behavioral support and be knowledgeable about individual behavior plans.
  • Monitor for unusual behaviors and collect relevant data.
  • Administer medications and understand their side effects.
  • Document medication errors accurately and promptly.
  • Recognize and report incidents appropriately.
  • Prevent and report any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Adhere to legal obligations regarding the reporting of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual) and neglect.
  • Collaborate effectively with co-workers.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including billing, accurately and on time.
  • Advocate for the rights of individuals.
  • Foster relationships with individuals served.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills.
  • Show initiative in all assigned tasks.
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrate reliability and punctuality.
  • Exhibit patience and understanding.
  • Maintain awareness of the individual's location at all times.
  • Utilize positive and non-stigmatizing language.
  • Respect all colleagues and individuals served.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Hazards:

  • Work hours are typically structured in 7.5 or 8.0 hour blocks but may require flexibility based on operational needs.
  • This position may involve tasks with potential exposure to blood or other infectious materials.
  • All staff are required to participate in annual training on infection control and safety protocols.
  • New staff must undergo training on managing physical and verbal threats, including situations that may require police intervention.
