Job Overview

Position Title: Supported Employment Specialist

Qualifications Required: Applicants must be at least 18 years old; a Bachelor's Degree is mandatory. Preference will be given to candidates who are at least 21 years old with a minimum of one year of experience in providing services to individuals with Developmental Disabilities (DD) or Intellectual Disabilities (ID). Candidates must successfully pass a criminal background check and a drug screening. A valid social security card or work permit for non-U.S. citizens, along with a valid driver's license free of moving violations, is also required.

Work Schedule: Standard hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with the possibility of evening and weekend hours as needed.

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Supported Employment Specialist Supervisor and/or the Program Director.

Role Summary: The Supported Employment Specialist is responsible for providing on-the-job support to individuals whose funding from Vocational Rehabilitation has been depleted.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise individuals at their job sites.
  • Deliver training and educational support both on-site and in other necessary locations.
  • Maintain communication with all staff involved in the individual's care, including Case Managers, Behavior Specialists, and Therapists.
  • Foster honesty and respect in interactions with individuals.
  • Support behavioral plans and monitor for unusual behaviors, ensuring proper data collection.
  • Administer medications and be knowledgeable about their side effects.
  • Document medication errors accurately and follow proper reporting protocols for incidents.
  • Prevent and report any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Collaborate effectively with co-workers to form a cohesive team.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including billing, accurately and promptly.
  • Advocate for the rights of individuals.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and initiative in all tasks.
  • Ensure confidentiality and maintain punctuality.
  • Display patience and understanding in all interactions.
  • Be aware of the individual's whereabouts at all times.
  • Utilize positive language that avoids stigmatization.
  • Show respect for all colleagues and individuals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Interpersonal skills that foster effective relationships.
  • Capability to exercise sound judgment, tact, and compassion in conflict resolution and crisis situations.
