WSP Global Inc. is excited to announce an opening for a full-time Civil Structures Engineer. This role is based in our Richmond, VA office and is an integral part of our expanding Transportation Team.

The chosen candidate will engage in a variety of projects that align with our clients' goals and address their challenges effectively.


Our Richmond office specializes in providing transportation and infrastructure solutions to a diverse range of agencies and private sector clients throughout Virginia and its neighboring regions.

Our structural engineering tasks encompass the design, evaluation, and analysis of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and various other structures.

This position is ideal for an engineer eager to collaborate within a team-oriented local office while also engaging in assignments that extend beyond the local environment, all within a globally recognized engineering firm.

Your Responsibilities


Conduct professional structural engineering tasks, including research and inspections of both proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels to ensure compliance with relevant rules, standards, and permits.

Assist in the verification and completion of designs for bridges and structures, including load ratings and plan development.


Support technical staff and project managers in identifying and assessing risks, providing insights and analysis on design concepts, construction, mitigation strategies, and remediation efforts.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project tasks, with potential involvement in bridge inspections as required.

Assist in preparing work plans and coordinating site activities.

Complete training for assigned responsibilities.


Work in partnership with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on federally, state, regionally, locally, and privately funded improvement and development initiatives.


Make responsible and ethical decisions regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and associated policies.

Take on additional responsibilities as dictated by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.

1 to 3 years of relevant post-educational experience in structural engineering.

Strong research capabilities with an analytical approach.


Effective interpersonal and communication skills, capable of conveying ideas clearly and professionally to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.

Demonstrated self-leadership with meticulous attention to detail, adept at multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities in a dynamic work setting.

Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team to achieve business objectives.

Basic proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software applications, mathematical principles, physics, predictive modeling, spreadsheets, and tools.


A proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.

Flexibility to work schedules that align with project-specific requirements, which may extend beyond the standard workweek.

Occasional travel may be necessary based on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or the ability to obtain EIT Certification within six months.

Prior design experience.

Active participation in local professional practice organizations.

Preferred Coursework:
Structural Design Programs, Concrete Design, Steel Design

Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and/or Microstation software.
