Civil Structural Engineer for Substation Projects
Position Overview

POWER Engineers is in search of a motivated and skilled professional with a robust background in civil engineering to engage in design activities for electrical substations. This role is part of the Power Delivery Substation Department. A hybrid work arrangement is available, requiring the candidate to reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office.
Key Responsibilities
  • Engage in comprehensive structural design for substations, including the creation of steel performance and fabrication drawings, as well as foundation design.
  • Formulate construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project timelines.
  • Incorporate relevant structural code requirements into designs.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines involved in the electrical substation design process.
  • Prepare calculation packages to meet client and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure the constructability of electrical substations.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control for deliverables.
  • Assist Project Managers and Engineers with project reporting.
  • Contribute to proposal development efforts.
  • Mentor and train junior team members.
  • Adhere to client standards and processes while working independently or collaboratively on complex designs.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Capability to operate as a Civil Structural Engineer.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of four years of civil design experience.
  • Strong mechanical reasoning skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience with Finite Element modeling; familiarity with Risa3D or STAAD Pro.
  • Knowledge of structural analysis, concrete and steel design, soil mechanics, and foundation design.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in performing calculations for steel structures and concrete foundations.
  • Demonstrated mentoring capabilities.
  • Excellent command of the English language, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV to 500kV) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, RISA, MatchCAD, LPile, STAAD, and Civil 3D is beneficial.
  • Background in geotechnical engineering is a plus.
  • Experience in seismic design.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while adhering to budgets and schedules.
  • Five or more years of experience in structural engineering.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification or completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or eligibility to obtain licensure in multiple states.
