CPS operates through 18 distinct networks, with the Office of Network Support providing essential administrative assistance, strategic guidance, and leadership development to enhance student learning across these networks.

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Director of Data Analytics, the Data Strategy Consultant will engage with 1-2 networks comprising approximately 20-40 urban schools. Collaborating closely with network leadership and school administrators, the consultant will play a pivotal role in establishing a comprehensive data strategy tailored to the specific needs of the assigned networks and schools, aimed at facilitating effective planning processes that drive student achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Chief of Schools to enhance principal and school team capabilities in alignment with the Continuous Improvement Process, including conducting root cause analyses and developing coherent multi-year strategies.
  • Assist school leaders in crafting, executing, and assessing their Continuous Improvement Work Plans (CIWP), focusing on fostering strong inquiry cycles and leveraging data for strategic planning.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback to school leadership teams to refine their data strategies and enhance outcomes.
  • Empower school teams to implement effective, data-driven instructional cycles.
  • Stay informed about relevant changes in CPS policies and initiatives related to data, accountability, and assessment.
  • Guide school teams in accurately interpreting data in accordance with best practices and CPS policies.
  • Equip school and network leaders to plan in accordance with CPS Accountability policies and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) protocols.
  • Enable leaders to establish data monitoring cycles focused on student experiences and discipline metrics.
  • Facilitate access to necessary datasets to support comprehensive engagement with data inquiry cycles.
  • Offer expertise in selecting key performance indicators for effective planning.
  • Support chiefs in assisting principals and instructional leadership teams in goal-setting and progress monitoring for school-based initiatives.
  • Conduct strategic data analyses to enhance student outcomes and improve the effectiveness of schools, programs, and district initiatives.
  • Analyze school and network performance data to provide strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Serve as the primary resource for understanding and utilizing CPS data systems.
  • Participate in the District's Data Analyst User Group.
  • Utilize approved enterprise analytic tools (SAS or SQL) in all analyses.
  • Adhere to established principles for analytic practice as defined by the Data Governance Council.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; preferred fields include Computer Science, Business, Education, or related disciplines.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in data analysis, including data cleaning, transformation, modeling, visualization, and trend analysis, along with relationship management.
  • Proficiency in data analytic tools such as SAS, R, SPSS, STATA, or similar tools is required.
  • Experience in coding is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI is preferred.
  • Experience with High School or Elementary Assessments and data cycles is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong consulting skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficient in Excel and/or Google Sheets, with the ability to manage and report on datasets.
  • Capability to apply statistical techniques and develop meaningful metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, data management, and visualization skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to derive actionable insights from data.
  • Ability to engage with adult learners in designing and facilitating professional development for educators.
  • Exceptional report writing and project management skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.

  • Establish and maintain residency within the City of Chicago within six months of hire.
