Position Overview

IHC Health Services, Inc. is a prominent academic medical institution dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare. The Vice President of Academic Affairs will be responsible for overseeing essential academic functions within the organization, emphasizing Faculty Development and Medical Education, while also managing an independent research agenda. This role will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer and work closely with clinical leadership, including Department Chairs and Senior Medical Directors, to enhance the professional growth of all academic staff.

The Vice President will serve as the primary leader for medical education initiatives and will collaborate extensively with senior management within the Office of Research. Additionally, this position will play a crucial role in expanding the institution's portfolio of patient-centered clinical research.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership in Faculty Development (50% of Role)

  • Conduct regular evaluations and check-ins with academic faculty.
  • Facilitate annual performance reviews and support faculty appointment, retention, and promotion processes.
  • Design and implement onboarding and mentorship programs tailored for academic staff.
  • Provide primary and collaborative mentorship for early- and mid-career researchers.
  • Ensure academic integrity is upheld across the institution.
  • Act as the executive representative in faculty hiring decisions.
  • Participate in the Appointment, Retention, and Promotion Committee.
  • Organize regular meetings for academic faculty engagement.
  • Serve as Medical Director for certain academic faculty members.

Leadership in Medical Education

  • Oversee the growth of Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs in alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Lead medical education initiatives with matrixed reporting to the System-wide Designated Institutional Official.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and funding for GME leadership roles and supervise program directors.
  • Engage in strategic partnerships to enhance educational offerings and oversee their implementation.

Research Leadership

  • Collaborate with system and hospital leadership to align research goals with institutional objectives.
  • Represent executive leadership in strategic discussions regarding research program development.
  • Work with Medical Directors to optimize faculty research initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship for early- and mid-career investigators.

Clinical and Academic Responsibilities (50% of Role)

Patient Care (20% of Role)

  • Engage in outpatient or inpatient clinical responsibilities.

Academic Contributions (30% of Role)

  • Maintain an active research program that meets institutional academic standards.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs is expected to embody the mission and values of IHC Health Services, fostering an environment that encourages academic excellence and extraordinary patient care. This role will also provide strategic direction and support for all relevant academic initiatives.

Additional Expectations

  • Deliver presentations to the Administrative Leadership Team on a quarterly basis.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with the Chief Medical Officer and participate in relevant meetings.
