Role Summary:

As a Lead Electrical Field Technician, you will engage in intricate electrical apparatus tasks at client sites. This encompasses electrical diagnostics, routine maintenance, system commissioning, enhancements, and repairs of electrical equipment. You will be accountable for troubleshooting, customer training, establishing lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, customer interaction, and documentation.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to the Regional Operations Manager or Field Service Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical and electrical operations on equipment used in power transmission, distribution, and generation at client locations.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Diagnose, repair, replace, and maintain all components within substations.
  • Lead and possess extensive knowledge in the following testing tasks:
  • Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.
  • Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper.
  • Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.
  • Test both electrical-mechanical and solid-state relays.
  • Assist in the installation, upkeep, and repair of electrical systems.
  • Organize and lead safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Support management in planning, scheduling, executing, and overseeing field projects.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance, safety regulations, and DOT guidelines.
  • Proficient in diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in email, internet navigation, data entry, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work under pressure to meet objectives.
  • Capacity to work independently while exercising sound judgment.
  • Knowledge of Doble DTAF and PowerDB is advantageous; training will be provided.
  • Consistent punctuality for work assignments, meetings, and training sessions.
  • Organizational skills for timely reporting of time and expenses, weekly updates, and other documentation requirements.
  • Responsibility for maintaining tools, testing equipment, and vehicles in a clean and organized manner, ensuring they are serviced and calibrated.

Work Environment:

  • Willingness to relocate within a reasonable distance of the regional office.
  • Standard business hours are Monday to Friday, but flexibility for extended hours may be necessary based on project requirements.
  • Work in close proximity to live electrical substations while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Availability for overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel for overnight, multi-day projects may be required.
  • Participate in emergency on-call rotations and respond to urgent customer needs promptly.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology or relevant military experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is required.
  • Ability to achieve NETA level III or IV certification within six months of employment.
  • Experience in project management and supporting management in planning, scheduling, execution, and cost oversight of field projects.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, along with periodic random testing.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to obtain necessary endorsements for operating vehicles up to 26k lbs.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to obtain company-sponsored certifications and training as required.
