Laboratory Specialist - Quality Control

Role Summary

The Quality Control Specialist plays a crucial role in the preparation and evaluation of samples related to cement-based underlayment, soundproofing materials, and lightweight concrete. This position involves meticulous record-keeping of experimental results and the upkeep of laboratory instruments. The Specialist will also contribute to the development and refinement of standard testing protocols and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests on the physical characteristics of aggregates and binders using established ASTM methodologies, including assessments of compressive strength, water absorption, consistency, and flexibility, while also analyzing visual quality and usability.
  • Systematically organize and track samples sourced from diverse locations, ensuring accurate documentation of testing processes and compiling data summaries for both internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Prepare samples for various compatibility assessments, which includes tasks such as mixing, casting, cutting, and finishing cement-based products.
  • Oversee the maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring regular calibration and upkeep of instruments as necessary. Manage inventory levels of essential laboratory supplies.
  • Support field evaluations of new products and provide on-site technical assistance as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Possession of a technical degree or relevant laboratory experience in a similar domain.
  • Strong organizational capabilities and meticulous record-keeping; ability to complete sample analyses and documentation promptly.
  • Effective communication skills to relay project updates and challenges; adept at managing multiple tasks and adapting to shifting priorities.
  • Capacity to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within team settings; maintain a positive and cooperative demeanor.
  • Proficiency in software applications such as Excel, Microsoft Office, and data collection tools for instrumentation.
  • Commitment to safety practices when working with chemicals, high temperatures, and mechanical equipment.
