Job Overview:

The Environmental Compliance Project Leader is responsible for overseeing the environmental aspects of highway development initiatives. This role includes ensuring adherence to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and managing environmental documentation in accordance with established Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). The position requires a thorough understanding of federal laws, regulations, and policies related to environmental reviews, as well as the coordination of data pertinent to project assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the environmental review process to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation of environmental documents that are legally compliant and defensible.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as tribal governments and stakeholders.
  • Present findings and updates at public meetings to promote transparency and public involvement.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure that mitigation commitments are feasible and actionable.
  • Stay informed about changes in environmental laws and regulations to maintain compliance.
  • Occasional travel may be required for project-related activities.

Work Environment:

This position may allow for remote work within Arizona, depending on departmental needs and performance metrics. The State of Arizona promotes a flexible work culture that supports employee autonomy and trust.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Environmental Science, Planning, or a related field, along with relevant professional experience. Direct experience in Environmental/NEPA Planning is preferred.
