POSITION TITLE: Residential Support Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Adult Services

REPORTS TO: Residential Manager, Assistant Residential Manager

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Foster a supportive and encouraging learning atmosphere while devising methods to assist clients in managing the social, emotional, and physical challenges of daily life, promoting independence in these areas.
  2. Capable of executing all required job duties, including the ability to lift and transfer individuals weighing 70-75lbs. The role involves active engagement both indoors and outdoors.
  3. Utilize approved safety techniques to ensure the well-being of clients, colleagues, and oneself.
  4. Implement and adhere to Individual Care Plans, documenting all teaching strategies, behavior management plans, and client progress, while identifying any obstacles to advancement.
  5. Observe and report daily medical, physical, and behavioral changes in clients to the Supervisor, RN Program Coordinator, or Program Director; complete incident reports promptly.
  6. Upon certification, administer medications to clients as scheduled, following agency protocols and regulatory standards, and report any discrepancies immediately.
  7. Assist in scheduling and attending medical appointments, ensuring compliance with healthcare recommendations as directed by the RN.
  8. Engage in meal planning, purchasing, and preparation while adhering to budgetary constraints and dietary requirements.
  9. Maintain cleanliness and safety of the residence and associated properties, reporting maintenance needs in a timely manner.
  10. Exhibit professionalism in interactions with clients, supervisors, coworkers, families, healthcare professionals, and community members.
  11. Participate in required training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities, ensuring compliance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
  12. Maintain accurate records of agency funds and client finances, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  13. Respect client privacy and uphold confidentiality in accordance with agency policies.
  14. Facilitate community engagement by taking clients on outings, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols.
  15. Familiarize oneself with agency policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  16. Contribute to building positive relationships within the neighborhood and community.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

1. Strong organizational skills and effective communication abilities with individuals with developmental disabilities.

2. Basic understanding of educational and behavioral intervention strategies.

3. Willingness to stay informed about current trends in developmental disabilities.

4. Ability to communicate with individuals across varying ability levels.

5. Organizational skills to implement programs that enhance individual learning experiences.

6. Self-motivated and proactive in improving the quality of life for clients.

7. Interest in household management and educational support.

8. Demonstrate patience, encouragement, optimism, and strong communication skills.

9. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks both indoors and outdoors.

10. Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record; reliable transportation may be necessary for client transport.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A high school diploma or GED is required, with a preference for candidates possessing two years of experience in Human Services. A Bachelor's degree in a related field, along with relevant experience, is preferred.
