**About the Role**
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Donor Center Associate II to join our team at Children's National Health System. As a key member of our transfusion medicine team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the success of our blood donation program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Donor Recruitment and Management: Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain donors, ensuring a steady supply of blood products for our patients.
- Donor Screening and Testing: Conduct thorough medical histories and screenings to ensure the safety and suitability of donors for blood donation.
- Donation Procedures: Assist with the collection of whole blood, platelets, and plasma from volunteer donors, ensuring adherence to strict quality control standards.
- Donor Support and Education: Provide excellent customer service and education to donors, addressing their questions and concerns in a professional and empathetic manner.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: Associate's degree or equivalent in Medical Technology or a related field of science.
- Experience: 3 years of related and progressive experience in a blood bank or transfusion medicine setting.
- Skills: Basic math calculations, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and computer knowledge and skills.
- Certifications: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the District of Columbia (preferred), Registry or eligible as MLT (ASCP or AMT) (preferred), and Certified by HEW or a similar regulatory agency (preferred).
Functional Accountabilities:
- Donor Retention and Recruitment: Develop and implement strategies to retain and recruit donors, ensuring a steady supply of blood products for our patients.
- Donor Education and Support: Provide excellent customer service and education to donors, addressing their questions and concerns in a professional and empathetic manner.
Quality Control and Assurance:
- Donation Procedures: Assist with the collection of whole blood, platelets, and plasma from volunteer donors, ensuring adherence to strict quality control standards.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all donation procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Cost Effectiveness and Efficiency:
- Supply Management: Responsible for the efficient and cost-effective use of supplies and reagents, ensuring adequate availability and minimizing waste.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure timely replenishment and minimize stockouts.
Continuing Education and Professional Development:
- Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in transfusion medicine and blood banking.
Organizational Accountabilities:
- Customer Service: Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, addressing donor and patient needs in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: Collaborate with all team members to achieve goals and objectives, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
