Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Senior International Trade Economist to join our team at the Cato Institute in Washington, DC. As a member of our research staff, you will be responsible for analyzing international trade policy and its impact on the US economy.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in economics, with a focus on international trade policy. You will work closely with our researchers to develop and implement studies on various trade-related topics. Your analyses will be published in multiple formats, including policy briefs, working papers, op-eds, blog posts, and other materials.

Responsibilities
  1. Analyze international trade policy and its effects on the US economy, using advanced econometric methods and software packages such as Stata, R, Python, or MATLAB.
  2. Develop and implement studies on various trade-related topics, including tariffs, non-tariff barriers, subsidies, industrial policy, and trade balances.
  3. Conduct research and analysis to inform policy discussions and debates.
  4. Prepare and present findings to audiences, including policymakers, academics, and the media.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in economics or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in trade policy, economics, and research.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including experience with econometric methods and software packages.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A commitment to accuracy and creativity in making innovative arguments for trade liberalization.

Salary and Location

The estimated salary for this position is around $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience. The job is located in Washington, DC.
