Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs Opportunity

The Milwaukee Art Museum seeks a visionary leader to serve as Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a world-renowned institution dedicated to showcasing the artistic heritage of Wisconsin.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and management of the curatorial departments. They will develop and implement a comprehensive approach to sustaining and caring for the museum's collections and archives, conceiving and organizing exhibitions and displays that engage local and international audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to achieve the museum's goals for its collections and exhibitions.
  • Assess and improve department functions, priorities, and processes to ensure efficiency and alignment with best practices.
  • Cultivate and support the talents of the team while holding staff accountable to institutional goals.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop exhibition, collection-management, presentation, and publication strategies.
  • Manage high-level aspects of the exhibition schedule, ensuring timely presentation within budget parameters.
  • Represent the museum in professional and academic forums, fostering relationships with local, national, and international colleagues.
  • Develop and monitor departmental and exhibition budgets, contracts, and agreements.
  • Collaborate with curators and conservators to prioritize conservation initiatives.
  • Recruit, hire, manage performance, and facilitate the training of staff.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in art history, fine arts, museum administration, or commensurate experience required; PhD preferred.
  • Working knowledge of TMS, Raisers Edge, Google's G Suite, or Microsoft Office Suite applications is desirable.

About the Museum:

The Milwaukee Art Museum is a comprehensive art institution and cultural cornerstone for the Greater Milwaukee region. As a member of the Executive Management Team, the Deputy Director will contribute to the museum's mission to promote the understanding and appreciation of art and its role in society.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
