About the Role

The Toolroom Operations Manager plays a crucial role in facilitating the production and engineering teams by overseeing the tooling for molds, dies, assembly fixtures, automation components, spare parts, and prototypes. This position involves managing both in-house tooling fabrication and external suppliers responsible for creating molds, dies, and other essential tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the fabrication of tooling to support molds, dies, machinery, production processes, automation, and quality assurance while adhering to budgetary constraints.
  • Coordinate resources effectively to meet established project timelines.
  • Lead projects related to the Tool Room and Tool Design.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, including safety, attendance, training, preventative maintenance, quality assurance, and employee guidelines.
  • Provide assistance to all manufacturing sectors, including job cards and work order requests.
  • Support manufacturing departments in process improvement initiatives.
  • Offer cost assessments for new molds, dies, and machinery.
  • Supervise the creation of prototype components for engineering and operational assessment.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Department on design and automation concepts.
  • Perform supervisory tasks, including hiring, training, task assignment, performance evaluation, and recognition of achievements.
  • Foster open communication among employees, providing constructive feedback and professional development opportunities to enhance productivity.
  • Utilize a collaborative management approach that promotes teamwork.
  • Maintain Toolroom procedures, documentation, and records to uphold ISO certification.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience demonstrating leadership and management proficiency.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a management role.
  • Extensive experience managing both internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Tool and Die Journeyman certification is preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks is advantageous.
Skills & Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of tool room equipment, tooling processes, and preventative maintenance protocols.
  • Comprehensive understanding of machining processes, including CNC Milling, Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, surface grinding, manual milling, lathe operations, CAD, and CAM applications.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, automation, and work cell manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Ability to interpret and guide work based on CAD models, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Capability to develop and manage a shop schedule that accommodates multiple projects, resources, and deadlines using MS Project software.
  • Working knowledge of ERP and tool crib inventory management systems is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level.

  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
