The Harmony Healthcare Long Island, previously recognized as Long Island Federally Qualified Health Center (LIFQHC), is a non-profit healthcare organization operating 7 health centers that provide primary care and preventive services across various locations.


Nassau County Locations:
Roosevelt, Elmont, Hempstead, Freeport, Oceanside, and New Cassel/Westbury.

Additionally, Harmony Healthcare Long Island operates 3 school-based health centers, WIC offices in 3 locations, and a Health Home Care Coordination program.

As federally qualified health centers, we cater to individuals in our communities, offering enhanced services, extended hours, and reduced prescription costs while elevating the standard of care.

We provide treatment to patients irrespective of their income, residency, or immigration status.

POSITION TITLE:
Front Desk Receptionist

REPORTS TO:
Practice Manager


The following statements outline the general duties, responsibilities, and competencies necessary to perform the essential functions of this role and should not be viewed as an exhaustive description of all work requirements.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promptly greets, assists, and directs patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
Handles patient check-in, registration, and check-out processes.
Informs patients/guardians of required documentation for visits. On subsequent visits, verifies demographic and billing information for accuracy.
Collects patient demographic and insurance details, verifies insurance eligibility, and accurately enters information into the electronic health record.

Explains all registration forms to patients, obtains necessary signatures on required consents and acknowledgments, and scans completed registration forms into the electronic health record.

Navigates insurance portals and accurately interprets coverage details such as plan descriptions, copayments, primary care providers, etc.

Confirms whether a referral or pre-authorization is necessary for visits.
Assists patients in changing their primary care provider if needed.
Enters eligible patients into the sliding scale program and records all necessary information in the electronic record.
Collects and processes payments due for visits and completes the daily cash reconciliation.
Schedules patient appointments based on criteria established by the health center.
Conducts appointment reminder calls and follows up on no-show calls.
Manages a high volume of incoming calls on a multi-line phone system, handling all calls professionally and referring them to the appropriate staff member.
Communicates and coordinates with physicians and clinical staff to ensure timely patient care.
Records and relays messages to the appropriate staff member.
Opens, sorts, and distributes mail and faxes.
Performs additional clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, and scanning medical records.
Provides coverage in other departments or health centers as required.
Undertakes other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Bilingual in English and Spanish/Creole required
Proficient in computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office & Outlook)
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to multitask and pay attention to detail
One (1) year of clerical experience in a medical setting preferred
Knowledge of health insurance verification, authorization, and/or billing required

SALARY:
Commensurate with experience
