Program Advisor Position Overview

The Parris Foundation is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to fill the position of TRIO Upward Bound Program Advisor. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field, as well as minimum one to two years of experience working in a federal, TRIO, or similar program serving disadvantaged youth.

We are offering an estimated salary of $62,000 annually, based on industry standards and location factors. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic, career, and post-secondary education advising and support to low-income and first-generation high school students.

Job Responsibilities
  • Promote Academic Excellence: Assist in identifying, recruiting, screening, and selecting prospective new participants to meet enrollment goals each academic year.
  • Counseling Services: Provide comprehensive academic, personal, career, and financial aid counseling to program participants, including assessing and documenting their academic and motivational needs.
  • Community Outreach: Promote the program within the community and schools through public service announcements, flyers, presentations, and regular visits to target schools.
  • Workshops and Support: Facilitate workshops on college applications, career opportunities, financial aid, FAFSA, financial planning, and the importance of rigorous academic coursework, as well as coordinate and/or conduct age-appropriate academic support workshops and activities.
  • Post-Secondary Preparation: Gather and disseminate information on post-secondary entrance requirements, availability of financial aid, and other college preparatory information to prepare Upward Bound participants to successfully transition to college.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Minimum one to two years of professional experience working in a federal, TRIO, or similar program serving disadvantaged youth.
  • Advising Experience: Experience providing case management and advising students about the college admissions and financial aid application processes.
  • Bilingual (Preferred): Bilingual abilities are desirable but not required.
