Primary Objective:

Support the librarian in managing the daily functions of the Library Media Centers (LMC). Execute routine administrative tasks under direct oversight.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent

*Meet one of the highly qualified criteria:

Completion of at least two years of coursework at an accredited institution of higher education (defined as completion of 48 semester hours or equivalent trimester hours) or an applicable number of semester hours as determined by the institution attended, whichever is less; Possession of an associate's degree or higher; Completion of a TEA approved paraprofessional certification training.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

Proficient in keyboarding and file management skills.

Ability to adhere to the district's cataloging procedures.

Capacity to engage effectively with children.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience:

A minimum of three years of clerical or administrative experience, preferably in an educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the library collection, including: shelving books, checking in and out materials, adding and removing items from the collection, repairing damaged books, and assisting with inventory as per campus and district guidelines. Process inter-LMC loans. Instruct students on utilizing the library system. Aid students in selecting suitable books based on their reading level and interests. Manage purchase orders, create requisitions, process new acquisitions, and maintain supplies for the LMC. Generate library reports, including overdue lists, and notify students and parents accordingly. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the LMC. Respond to inquiries via phone and/or email regarding LMC matters. Assist in supervising student LMC aides on a daily basis. Supervise the library during co-teaching or professional learning community meetings. Support literacy initiatives within the LMC and throughout the school (e.g., Accelerated Reader, Battle of the Books). Stay updated by reading books that align with campus and student interests. Collaborate with the LMS in managing the calendar and check-out system for labs and carts. Perform basic troubleshooting for mobile devices, projectors, and computers. Utilize and maintain the work order system for LMC-related technology issues (shared mobile devices, computer labs, laptops). Non-LMC technical issues are the responsibility of teachers and campus administration. Assist in computer labs as needed. Help organize book fairs and other LMC-related special events. Aid in maintaining the campus makerspace with supplies and materials while ensuring student safety. Assist in managing the LMC district and activity account ledgers. Support the upkeep of library databases and user accounts. Design and create engaging library displays. Collaborate with community volunteers in the LMC. Assist with the maintenance of asset tracking systems.

Supervisory Duties:

Assist in overseeing student aides and volunteers.

Mental and Physical Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computers and peripherals; standard library equipment including imaging tools; standard instructional devices.

Posture: Regular sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular overhead reaching; climbing ladders.

Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds).

Environment: Work indoors; work independently; exposure to dust and noise; work with frequent interruptions.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
