St. John's seeks innovative, exemplary Library and Digital Media Specialist who is deeply committed to educational best practices. This is an Academic School Year position and will report to the Elementary and Middle Division Principal. The duties listed below are representative of the general duties of the role and are not exhaustive; additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

The Library and Digital Media Specialist is to perform a variety of professional library-based work to ensure the day-to-day operation of the St. John's Learning Commons across all three Divisions. In addition to supervising and managing the daily operations of the Learning Commons, the Library and Digital Media Specialist supports students, teachers, and staff in all aspects.

Essential Functions/Tasks:

  • Foster a vibrant and welcoming environment that promotes student learning.
  • Encourage in all students a love for reading, inquiry, and collaboration.
  • Support the development of students' content-specific knowledge, as well as ability to research, synthesize, and discern information.
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure that students meet learning targets/objectives.
  • Support students and teachers with content area integration.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to students and faculty around the integration of information and media skills, including how to appropriately use library resources and technologies.
  • Evaluate, select, procure, and organize print and digital resources and related equipment.
  • Develop and oversee policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, services, and facility use for a 21 st -century library/learning commons program.
  • Support the development and implementation of a results-oriented information and technology literacy skills curriculum.
  • Participate in collaboratively defining and communicating the purpose – and evolving role – of a 21 st Century Learning Commons; and, as requested, provide informative presentations to various constituent groups, such as students, faculty, administration, and the broader school community.
  • Participate in Battle of the Books with area schools and support this initiative by hosting weekly meetings during student lunchtime, involving parent volunteers and interested faculty members.
  • Manage a reservation system so that the various divisions are able to use the common areas within the Learning Commons for meetings and hosted events.
Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications:Candidates must hold a B.A. or B.S degree from an accredited college or university; preference will be given to candidates with a Master of Library and Information Science Familiarity with national and state standards for information and technology literacy, including the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and American Association of School Librarians (AASL) standards A minimum of three years of teaching in an independent school environment preferred and excellent verbal and written communications skills
