Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of wildland fire management, including fire operations, strategic planning, aviation oversight, training, and resource readiness.
  • Collaborates with the Fire Management Officer (FMO) to manage budgetary processes, facilitate communication, and develop cooperative agreements, policies, and procedures for the fire management program.
  • Provides guidance and oversight in the formulation of state and regional protocols, program standards, and strategic objectives for assigned program areas.
  • Contributes to the innovation of new methodologies and practices tailored to wildland fire management, considering the specific characteristics of the state or region.
  • Coordinates the strategic execution of intricate fire management operations in a dynamic environment, ensuring effective allocation of resources, equipment, and aircraft.
  • Acts as a representative for state, regional, or Tribal wildland fire management to national leadership and other relevant agencies and communities.
