Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed estimates for various design phases, including:
    • Conceptual, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documentation.
  • Support the upkeep of the estimating cost database to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Oversee the estimating team in the preparation and submission of competitive bids.
  • Provide guidance and training to estimators and engineering staff involved in bid preparation.
  • Engage with clients, architects, subcontractors, and suppliers to refine estimates, implement cost-saving measures, and address challenges.
  • Analyze specifications to aid the operations team in planning manufacturing processes based on timelines and staffing needs.
  • Investigate drawings and documents to assess specifications for cost estimation.
  • Collaborate with the operations team during the preconstruction phase to review plans for manufacturability and establish project requirements.
  • Establish and manage the preconstruction/design schedule for various products and programs.
  • Handle multiple preconstruction initiatives concurrently.
  • Oversee the subcontractor prequalification process, ensuring selected subcontractors possess the necessary experience and financial stability.
  • Examine design documents to ensure accurate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers, generate viable value engineering proposals, and prepare life-cycle cost analyses.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs and estimate costs for materials, labor, and equipment needed to meet contract obligations.
  • Work with the Engineering Department to utilize software like Revit for generating quantities from design models.
  • Ensure that self-performed estimates align with the overall construction contract requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive bid packages in collaboration with the design team to ensure complete bids and provide essential information for production or project scheduling.
  • Uphold integrity and ethical standards within the estimating team throughout the estimating process.
  • Draft specific and general instructions for bidders and required bid forms.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids for compliance with contract specifications and determine acceptable bids.
  • Present and clarify project budgets to clients, designers, and operational teams.
  • Manage the buy-out process and transition to the Operations Team.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Estimator to finalize estimates for the operations and accounting teams to develop project budgets.
  • Proficient in software tools such as:
    • MC2
    • Bluebeam
    • OST
    • MS Excel
    • MS Word
    • MS Project (Scheduling)
    • Navisworks
    • Revit
    • SketchUp
    • iSQFT
  • Track productivity on previous projects and follow up on past awards.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in construction, with a minimum of five (5) years in estimating.
  • Experience in Data Center and Power markets, including modular products and programs.
  • Capability to manage large, complex competitive bid projects.
  • Ability to produce conceptual estimates for modular products.
  • Strong independent sales skills for presentations and project pursuits.
  • Proven track record of effective collaboration with operational teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key personnel across departments.
  • Make significant decisions impacting company activities.
  • Exhibit creativity, foresight, and sound judgment in addressing complex challenges.
  • Define program objectives and requirements, organizing projects and developing standards for diverse activities.
  • Advanced estimating skills, including engineering calculations and effective communication with technical teams.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret and organize construction plans and specifications.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
