Role Overview

We are currently seeking a Senior Estimator to join our team, focusing on complex projects within the Life Sciences sector. This role will involve direct interaction with clients and will be pivotal in steering projects towards successful outcomes.

As a key contributor to our Life Sciences initiatives, you will provide essential cost control and estimating services for our clients' capital construction programs. A strong background in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) is crucial for success in this position. Excellent communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in a client-facing role are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities by managing an Estimating team to ensure accountability and performance.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with clients, stakeholders, and other consultants throughout all project phases.
  • Identify and implement enhancements to estimating and cost management processes, templates, and deliverables.
  • Manage knowledge sharing by inputting valuable insights and learnings into client benchmarking databases.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance internal systems and operational efficiency.
  • Cultivate new business opportunities with both existing and prospective clients.
  • Recognize and act on cross-selling opportunities within the organization.
  • Lead the preparation of proposals for new projects or modifications to existing contracts.
  • Participate in networking events and promotional activities.
  • Contribute to staff management, including performance reviews and recruitment processes.

Pre-Contract Planning:

  • Develop comprehensive estimates and cost plans, presenting final cost projections.
  • Create Project Capital Estimates using a detailed, bottom-up approach.
  • Provide expert estimating services throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual stages to contract negotiations and construction completion.
  • Train general contractors on templates and tools to ensure compliance with commercial analysis requirements.
  • Assist in feasibility studies and the preparation of procurement reports.
  • Support procurement activities, including managing pre-qualification stages and bid analysis.
  • Contribute to value engineering efforts and assist in final bid negotiations.
  • Maintain communication with clients and consultants at all project stages.
  • Lead the cost management team to ensure all responsibilities are met.
  • Conduct detailed comparative analyses of commercial submissions.
  • Oversee the commercial review process for competitive bids.
  • Assist the project delivery team with post-contract cost analysis and change order evaluations.
  • Integrate benchmarking to ensure accurate data capture.

Post-Contract Responsibilities:

  • Support change management activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly post-contract cost reports for clients.
  • Manage cost assessments and valuations for larger projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in construction cost management or estimating roles.
  • At least 5 years of post-graduate experience in preparing large-scale MEP construction cost estimates.
  • Proficient in reviewing MEP subcontract packages with key stakeholders.
  • A degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field.
  • RICS accreditation or AACE certification is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in large-scale Life Sciences projects or similar fields is preferred.
  • Proven experience leading cost management on medium to large construction projects of varying complexity.
  • Strong understanding of construction industry technical matters, including procurement routes and value engineering.
  • Experience in the US market is highly desirable.
