Turner & Townsend is dedicated to assisting clients with a range of intricate projects, overseeing all facets of cost management and project execution. We are currently in search of a Senior Estimator with a robust background in large-scale Life Sciences construction initiatives, who will serve as the primary liaison with our clients and propel these projects towards outstanding results.

This position offers the opportunity to play a pivotal role in our Life Sciences division, collaborating with a team of forward-thinking professionals who are transforming our built environment.

Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering cost control and estimating services for our Life Sciences clients' facility capital construction programs. A strong background in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) is essential. Key responsibilities include:

  • Exhibiting strong leadership capabilities by managing an Estimating team and ensuring accountability.
  • Taking a proactive role in engaging with clients, stakeholders, and other consultants throughout all project phases.
  • Identifying and implementing enhancements to estimating and cost management processes, templates, and deliverables.
  • Facilitating knowledge management by inputting critical information and insights from each project into internal and external benchmarking databases.
  • Driving process improvements by recognizing and acting on opportunities to enhance internal systems.
  • Assuming responsibility for developing new business prospects with both existing and potential Turner & Townsend clients.
  • Spotting and pursuing cross-selling opportunities.
  • Leading proposals for new projects or modifications to ongoing assignments.
  • Participating in relevant networking events and promotional activities.
  • Contributing to staff management, including involvement in recruitment and performance reviews.
Pre-Contract Planning

Key tasks include:

  • Providing comprehensive estimates and cost planning, culminating in the presentation of the final cost plan.
  • Developing Project Capital Estimates using a detailed, bottom-up approach.
  • Estimating at various levels, including conceptual, programming, and detailed stages.
  • Delivering expert estimating services for Life Sciences projects from initial concept through to construction completion, while managing essential relationships with clients and project teams.
  • Leading the training of templates and tools for contractors to ensure compliance with commercial analysis requirements.
  • Assisting with feasibility studies and the preparation of procurement reports.
  • Overseeing all procurement aspects, including managing pre-qualification stages, creating bid lists, conducting bid analyses, and compiling contractual documents.
  • Providing input for value engineering and assisting in the negotiation and approval of final bids.
  • Maintaining communication with clients and consultants throughout all project stages.
  • Offering leadership to the cost management team to ensure accountability.
  • Conducting detailed comparative analyses of commercial submissions from contractors.
  • Leading the commercial review process for competitive bids across major trades.
  • Supporting the project delivery team with post-contract cost analysis and change order evaluations.
  • Integrating benchmarking to ensure accurate data capture.
Post-Contract Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with change management activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Producing monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting findings to clients.
  • Managing cost checks and performing valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and precise cost verification and valuation processes.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in construction cost management or estimating roles.
  • At least 5 years of post-graduate experience in preparing large-scale Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) construction cost estimates.
  • Confidence in reviewing MEP subcontract packages with key client stakeholders.
  • A college degree or higher in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field.
  • RICS accreditation, AACE certification, or progress towards these qualifications is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in large-scale Life Sciences projects or similar fields.
  • Proven experience in leading cost management for medium to large construction projects of varying complexity.
  • Strong knowledge of construction industry technical matters, including procurement routes, value management, and value engineering.
  • Experience in the US market is highly desirable.
