Role Overview

We are currently seeking a Senior Estimator to support our clients with complex projects, focusing on all facets of cost management and project execution. This role involves acting as the primary liaison with clients and driving projects towards exceptional results.

As a vital contributor to our Life Sciences division, you will join a team of forward-thinking professionals dedicated to shaping the built environment.

Your responsibilities will include providing cost control and estimating services for our Life Sciences clients' capital construction programs, with a strong emphasis on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) expertise. To excel in this position, excellent communication skills and comfort in a client-facing role are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities by managing an Estimating team and ensuring accountability in deliverables.
  • Take a proactive role in engaging with clients, stakeholders, and consultants throughout all project phases.
  • Identify and implement improvements in estimating and cost management processes, templates, and deliverables.
  • Ensure that critical information and insights from each project are documented and shared within internal and external benchmarking databases.
  • Drive process enhancements by recognizing and acting on opportunities to refine internal systems.
  • Cultivate new business opportunities with both existing and prospective clients.
  • Recognize and pursue cross-selling opportunities.
  • Lead the preparation of proposals for new projects or modifications to ongoing initiatives.
  • Participate in relevant networking events and promotional activities.
  • Contribute to staff management, including involvement in recruitment and performance evaluations.

Pre-Contract Planning:

  • Provide comprehensive cost estimates and planning, culminating in the presentation of the final cost plan.
  • Develop Project Capital Estimates using a detailed, bottom-up approach.
  • Capable of estimating at conceptual, programming, and detailed levels.
  • Offer expert estimating services for Life Sciences projects from initial concept through to construction completion, maintaining key relationships with clients and project teams.
  • Facilitate training on templates and tools for contractors to ensure compliance with commercial analysis standards.
  • Assist in feasibility studies and the preparation of procurement reports.
  • Support all procurement activities, including managing pre-qualification stages, producing bid lists, conducting bid analyses, and compiling contractual documents.
  • Contribute to value engineering efforts and assist in negotiating final bids.
  • Maintain communication with clients and consultants throughout all project stages.
  • Provide leadership to the cost management team, ensuring accountability in deliverables.
  • Conduct detailed comparative analyses of commercial submissions from contractors.
  • Oversee the commercial review process for competitive bids on major trades.
  • Assist the project delivery team with post-contract cost analysis and change order evaluations.
  • Integrate benchmarking to ensure accurate data capture.

Post-Contract Responsibilities:

  • Support change management activities throughout the project lifecycle across a portfolio of projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly post-contract cost reports for clients.
  • Manage cost checks and conduct valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and accurate processes.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in construction cost management or estimating roles.
  • At least 5 years of post-graduate experience in preparing large-scale Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) construction cost estimates.
  • Proficient in reviewing MEP subcontract packages with key client stakeholders.
  • A college or post-graduate degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field.
  • RICS accreditation/AACE or progress towards it is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience with large-scale Life Sciences projects or similar initiatives.
  • Proven experience leading cost management on medium to large construction projects of varying complexity.
  • Strong understanding of construction industry technical matters, including procurement routes, value management, and value engineering.
  • US experience is highly desirable.
