The Principal Program Manager is responsible for steering strategic initiatives and projects that align with our New Product Development and Innovation strategies. This role involves overseeing comprehensive development projects that may engage both internal engineering teams and cross-functional groups, as well as collaborative efforts with external partners. The manager ensures that all assigned tasks and responsibilities are executed promptly and accurately, meeting project deliverables and expectations set by executive leadership. This includes leading and participating in the management of project execution, scope, timelines, budgets, product quality, and communicating project status, risks, and issues effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs cross-functional teams and external consultants throughout the project lifecycle to guarantee timely and precise completion of deliverables. This may involve drafting Statements of Work for third-party vendors and partners.
  • Oversees the creation of essential project documentation, including plans, schedules, charters, roles, responsibilities, scope, budgets, and project ROI, accounting for ongoing operational costs and resource needs.
  • Develops comprehensive cost estimates and budgets for assigned projects, implementing cost control measures to ensure adherence to financial plans.
  • Maintains clear communication regarding project status with team members and stakeholders throughout the project duration and post-implementation, ensuring all affected teams are informed of risks, issues, and activities.
  • Secures necessary approvals for all project documentation to ensure clarity of expectations among stakeholders.
  • Provides ongoing leadership, coaching, and guidance to project team members regarding project lifecycle, operational procedures, and best practices, ensuring consistency within the Project Management organization.
  • Creates risk management strategies to identify, analyze, monitor, and respond to project-related risks, ensuring the achievement of expected outcomes within budget and on schedule.
  • Reviews operational and engineering components of projects to ensure alignment with objectives, participating in design reviews, risk assessments, and other commercialization activities as needed.
  • Accountable for managing revenue or costs ranging from $1M to $5M per project, typically spanning one to three years, involving multiple locations and third-party partners, and leading large, cross-functional teams across various departments.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in project management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to foster team cohesion and collaborate across functions to achieve objectives.
  • Demonstrates a customer-focused approach and promotes a shared vision.
  • Creates a motivating and respectful environment for team members.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Possesses exceptional organizational and planning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management certifications (PMP, IPMA).
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and business acumen, with a successful track record in new product commercialization.
  • Experience managing projects in manufacturing, hardware, software development, and electronics, with a technical background.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams across various locations, aligning efforts towards project goals.
