Position Overview:

The Health and Safety Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effectiveness of Bristol Bay's safety management initiatives, adhering to all regulatory standards and company policies.

This role encompasses essential functions such as sampling, testing, training, documentation, employee mentoring, and maintaining records for Bristol Bay personnel and projects, including client training sessions and safety equipment usage.

Key Responsibilities:
To excel in this position, the individual must competently perform the following duties:
Maintain a visible safety presence in the field by conducting regular site visits.

Motivate team members to engage in behavior-based safety practices and conduct safety-related activities such as audits, observations, and mentoring of Bristol Bay employees.


Training Responsibilities:

Conduct training sessions on various safety topics, including Bloodborne Pathogens, Confined Space Entry, Energy Isolation, Respirator Protection, Hearing Conservation, Fall Protection, and Hydrogen Sulfide Awareness, along with client-specific requirements.

Ensure the implementation and ongoing management of safety programs.
Verify that the workforce adheres to all Bristol Bay guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Organize and oversee training courses in alignment with OSHA and client standards.

Assist in tracking employee training records to ensure compliance with all health, safety, and training requirements.

Perform audits of job sites to identify hazards and assess mitigation strategies concerning personnel and health risks.
Conduct regular formal and informal audits focusing on various health and safety issues.

Regularly review specific safety assessments to ensure compliance with both client and Bristol Bay standards.

Manage incidents, injuries, spills, and equipment damage, compiling necessary documentation, leading investigations, and identifying root causes as required.
Maintain daily communication with Bristol Bay employees and management.
Ensure 100% compliance readiness in all mandatory regulatory requirements.

Maintain 100% accountability in safety standards, which includes:
Compliance with required safety training.
Taking proactive measures when unsafe behaviors or conditions are observed.
Promptly reporting and addressing all safety concerns or incidents.
Facilitating safety meetings.
Conducting investigations and compiling reports for management and clients.
Provide case management support and coordinate with supervisory staff.
Conduct job site assessments with foremen to provide Job Safety Analyses (JSA) for upcoming tasks.
Ensure that JSAs accurately reflect job steps, potential hazards, and corresponding mitigations.

Ensure that all relevant personnel have reviewed and signed off on the JSA.

Maintain accurate records such as training rosters.
Assist clients in risk assessment processes for projects.
Must be comfortable communicating with personnel at all organizational levels.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED is mandatory. A two-year degree with three years of safety-related experience or five years of verifiable safety experience is required.
A valid driver's license is necessary.
TWIC Card is required.
Experience in confined space evaluation is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
A college degree in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred.
Nationally recognized certifications such as CSP are advantageous.

Work Environment:

This position is full-time and may require on-call availability. Flexibility in work hours is necessary to meet job demands. The role may involve exposure to challenging weather conditions while working outdoors.

Employees will frequently work at construction sites, where they may encounter moving machinery, high elevations, fumes, and electrical hazards. Noise levels can vary from moderate to very loud, and hearing protection and safety eyewear are required in most situations.


Physical Requirements:

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

A pre-hire Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to assess the candidate's ability to meet job standards.


MOBILITY:
Must be able to access machinery controls and components for maintenance. Ability to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet is required. Frequent walking and standing are necessary, along with occasional keyboard use, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching.

HEARING:
Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.

VISUAL ACUITY:
Must possess adequate vision to perform tasks safely and interpret hand signals.

LIFTING:
Must be able to routinely lift 50 pounds from floor to waist and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.

RANGE OF MOTION:
An objective range of motion assessment will be conducted during the pre-hire FCE.
