Role Overview

The primary objective of this position is to deliver direct nursing care to residents while overseeing the daily operations conducted by nursing assistants.

This oversight must align with the prevailing federal, state, and local standards, as well as regulations governing our facility, and as directed by the Nursing Services Director or Nurse Supervisor to ensure the highest quality of care is consistently upheld.

Delegation of Responsibilities

As the Charge Nurse, you are entrusted with the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability essential for executing your designated duties.

• Direct the daily activities of nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care facilities.

• Ensure compliance of all nursing personnel with the established policies and procedures of the facility.

• Regularly review departmental policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions, making recommendations for updates.

• Collaborate with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan services, programs, and activities for shifts.

• Ensure the Nursing Service Procedures Manual is up-to-date and accurately reflects daily nursing practices.

• Ensure adherence to the procedures outlined in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual by all nursing service personnel.

• Prepare written and oral reports/recommendations regarding shift activities as required.

Qualifications

• Must possess, at a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited institution or be a graduate of an approved LPN/VN program.

• Registered Nurses are also encouraged to consider this opportunity.

Experience

• No prior experience is necessary; on-the-job training will be provided.

Specific Requirements

• Must hold a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN or LPN/LVN in the state.

• Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language is required.

• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to residents.

• Must be a supportive team member, exemplifying teamwork and collaboration.

• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.

• Must possess the ability to interact tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.

• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, as well as laws and regulations pertaining to nursing care facilities, is essential.

• Must exhibit leadership and supervisory capabilities and work harmoniously with other staff.

• Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary for delivering quality care.

• Must demonstrate patience, tact, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm, along with the willingness to manage challenging residents.

• Must be open to exploring new methods and principles and integrating them into existing nursing practices.

• Must be able to communicate information regarding a resident's condition effectively.

• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
