POSITION: Catering Captain

REPORTS TO: Catering Supervisor & Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Catering Captain plays a pivotal role in orchestrating and delivering exceptional catering services for various events, ensuring that each occasion is executed flawlessly to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the planning, delegation, and management of catering staff.
  • Maintaining budgetary compliance by following established labor schedules.
  • Engaging actively with both staff and clients throughout events to ensure seamless service.
  • Arriving on time and dressed appropriately as per company standards.
  • Coordinating the collection of all necessary banquet equipment, including cutlery, dishes, and serving items.
  • Requesting food and supplies as required during events.
  • Assisting with the preparation and arrangement of event spaces when necessary.
  • Participating in pre-event meetings to review details and expectations.
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations as mandated by local authorities.
  • Delivering courteous and friendly service consistently.
  • Remaining stationed at designated areas to fulfill assigned duties during events.
  • Managing inventory, including counting and requisitioning food and supplies before, during, and after events.
  • Breaking down tables and catering equipment post-event.
  • Cleaning and returning catering items to their designated storage locations.
  • Upholding grooming standards and company policies for all team members.
  • Performing additional tasks as required and deemed necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Catering Captain directly supervises multiple team members within the Catering Department, executing supervisory duties in alignment with company policies and legal requirements.

As the acting supervisor during events, responsibilities may encompass planning, conducting site visits, developing event documentation, managing labor resources, assigning tasks, addressing guest concerns, and ensuring that all event activities meet client expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a client-facing service role.
  • Familiarity with catering services and relevant terminology.
  • Ability to follow directions and execute tasks efficiently.
  • A pleasant demeanor and professional appearance.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proactive and hands-on approach to responsibilities.
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English sufficient for effective interaction with clients and team members.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Visio is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands of this position include:

  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Manual dexterity for handling food service items.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 15 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs, and rare lifting of up to 100 lbs (with assistance).

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Employees may experience moderate to high noise levels during events and may be exposed to varying environmental conditions, including heat and inclement weather.

Vaccination is a job requirement, with accommodations considered for disabilities or religious beliefs.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Food service handler certification and RBS (ABC) certification are required.

HOURS OF WORK AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel to and from event locations is necessary. Shifts may vary, requiring flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
