Job Summary

As an Outreach Athletic Trainer at Corewell Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, evidence-based athletic health services to stakeholders in our sports medicine outreach program. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive healthcare programs for patients, clients, and athletes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage and Patient Care: Triage patients as directed by physicians and other providers, providing patient instruction as directed. Collect and monitor patient data, reporting patient data and patient needs to physicians and other providers. Document care consistent with documentation guidelines.
  • Athlete Evaluation and Care: Evaluate athletes' physical condition, response, and progress, discussing with appropriate physicians, Lead Athletic Trainers, or Managers. Interface with student athletes, parents, staff, coaches, physicians, athletic trainers, and auxiliary medical personnel for information exchange on athletes' condition. Observe and assist with the fitting of athletic equipment.
  • Treatment Area Management: Responsible for the operation of treatment headquarters at practice and game sites, including modalities, equipment, and supplies used in these treatment areas. Ensure the general cleanliness of athletic facilities and treatment areas.
  • Pre-Game and Practice Preparation: Prepare players for each practice and game by exercising, preventative taping and bandaging techniques, and overseeing the team warm-up and flexibility period. May be required to cover practices and contests during the pre-season, regular season, and post-season.
  • Pre-Season Physical Examinations: Work with the team Physician/Lead Athletic Trainer/Manager to plan, organize, and implement pre-season physical examinations of all players. Collaborate with Team Physicians and coaching staffs to determine when it is medically safe for an ill or injured athlete to return to competition.
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Play: Rehabilitation of injured players following athletic injury or surgery is a primary concern. Follow the athlete from onset of injury to diagnosis, treatment, and reconditioning programs aimed at restoring the injured athlete to their pre-injury fitness level or a level determined by the Team Physician to allow the athlete to return to competition.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with pertinent literature, attend meetings and educational classes, and participate in professional associations as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in athletic training or a related field.
  • Experience: 1 year of relevant experience in all aspects of athletic training, with progressively more responsible experience.
  • Certifications: CRT-Athletic Trainer, Certified - BOC Board of Certification and Accreditation; LIC-Athletic Trainer License - STATE_MI State of Michigan; CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association or ARC American Red Cross; CRT-Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Certified (CSCS) - NSCA National Strength and Conditioning Association; CRT-Performance Enhancement Specialization, Certified (PES) - UNKNOWN Unknown; CRT-Functional Movement Screen, Certified (FMS) - UNKNOWN Unknown; CRT-Kinesio Taping Practitioner, Certified (CKTP) - UNKNOWN Unknown; LIC-Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - STATE_MI State of Michigan.
