Job Summary

As an Athletic Trainer in our Outreach Program, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based athletic health services to stakeholders in our sports medicine outreach program. You will develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive healthcare programs for patients, clients, and athletes, ensuring the highest level of care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage patients as directed by physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Provide patient instruction as directed by physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Collect and monitor patient data, reporting patient data and needs to physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Document care consistently with documentation guidelines.
  • Evaluate athletes' physical condition, response, and progress, and discuss with appropriate physicians, lead athletic trainers, or managers.
  • Interface with student athletes, parents, staff, coaches, physicians, athletic trainers, and auxiliary medical personnel for information exchange on athletes' condition.
  • Observe and assist with the fitting of athletic equipment.
  • Operate treatment headquarters at practice and game sites, ensuring the modalities, equipment, and supplies used in these treatment areas are properly maintained and the general cleanliness of the athletic facilities and treatment areas is maintained.
  • Prepare players for each practice and game by exercising, preventative taping and bandaging techniques, and overseeing the team warm-up and flexibility period.
  • May be required to cover practices and contests (home and away) during the pre-season, regular season, and post-season, as well as summer out-of-season athletic training office hours.
  • Remain on 24-hour call during designated times.
  • Work with the team physician/lead athletic trainer/manager to plan, organize, and implement pre-season (and post-season when indicated) physical examinations of all players.
  • Collaborate with team physicians and coaching staffs to determine when it is medically safe for an ill or injured athlete to return to competition.
  • Rehabilitate injured players following athletic injury or surgery, ensuring a primary concern of the athletic trainer is followed from onset of injury to the acquisition of a diagnosis by the team physician, through conservative or surgical procedures necessary to provide the best possible outcome for the athlete, through a reconditioning program aimed at restoring the injured athlete to their pre-injury fitness level or a level determined by the team physician to allow the athlete to return to competition.
Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in athletic training or a related field.
  • Required: Master's Degree or equivalent in athletic training or a related field.
  • Required: Completion of a CAATE-approved athletic training education program or educational equivalent.
  • Required: Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program.
  • Required: 1 year of relevant experience in all aspects of athletic training.
  • Required: CRT-Athletic Trainer, Certified - BOC Board of Certification and Accreditation.
  • Required: LIC-Athletic Trainer License - STATE_MI State of Michigan.
  • Required: CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross.
  • Preferred: CRT-Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Certified (CSCS) - NSCA National Strength and Conditioning Association.
