Role Summary:
The Natural Gas Trader will play a crucial role in identifying and executing physical gas trading opportunities within the Gulf Coast and adjacent regions, enhancing the portfolio and delivering economic advantages to the company. This position entails analyzing market trends, executing trades, and formulating strategies to optimize profitability while managing associated risks. The ideal candidate will collaborate with fellow traders and the origination team to expand our gas business profitably, contributing to the evaluation and execution of structured transactions, including asset management arrangements and capacity-related transactions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze market conditions, price trends, and supply-demand dynamics for natural gas in the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas.
  2. Develop and implement strategies to leverage market opportunities and meet financial objectives.
  3. Monitor regional and global energy market developments and evaluate their implications for the region.
  4. Identify new markets and opportunities that offer growth potential in the Gulf Coast.
Additional Duties:
  1. Execute physical gas trades to support the company's natural gas business goals in the Gulf Coast and surrounding regions.
  2. Negotiate trade terms with counterparties, including pricing, volume, and delivery requirements, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  3. Collaborate with various teams within NRG to create unique product offerings and deliver exceptional services to customers and counterparties.
  4. Assess market risks associated with trading activities.
  5. Formulate and implement risk management strategies to mitigate exposure to price fluctuations and other market risks.
  6. Monitor and manage trading positions in alignment with risk management policies.
  7. Track and report on trading performance, including profit and loss, and market positions.
  8. Analyze trading outcomes and provide insights for future trading strategies.
  9. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  10. Maintain accurate records of trading activities for audit and compliance purposes.
  11. Collaborate with other NRG staff to optimize the company's market position and strategy, including participation in market regulatory and policy discussions.
  12. Adhere to all laws and regulations as well as internal NRG policies.
Required Skills:
  1. Proficient in trading platforms, market analysis tools, and modeling.
  2. Strong analytical skills for interpreting market data.
  3. Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
  4. Capability to perform under pressure and make informed decisions in a challenging environment.
  5. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements for gas trading.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in natural gas trading or a related area focusing on physical gas markets.
  2. Comprehensive understanding of natural gas markets, financial products, physical pipeline flows within the Gulf Coast and surrounding regions, and structured transactions.
  3. Established relationships with key counterparties are a significant advantage.
