The Natural Gas Market Specialist is responsible for providing in-depth analysis of commodity market fundamentals, focusing on short to medium-term supply and demand dynamics, as well as offering support to traders within the Global supply and trading operations. This role also involves the creation of product flow and arbitrage models. Additionally, the position will cater to various ad hoc requests from senior management and other commercial teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Acquire a thorough understanding of commodity trading, emphasizing critical supply and demand regions, logistics assets, storage facilities, and financial instruments utilized for hedging in these markets. A solid grasp of essential trading strategies is vital for success.
  • Articulate market fundamentals and trading strategies to commercial leadership, aiding in the formulation of a market entry strategy that outlines a profitable business model for establishing a commodity trading desk aligned with the overall trading strategy.
  • Comprehend key trading positions and support the analytical team's initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain near to medium-term supply and demand models (covering prompt to two years ahead). This will require close collaboration with trading teams to grasp market trends, incorporating downtime, seasonal cycles, and macroeconomic factors while leveraging import/export data to ensure model accuracy and acceptance by trading teams. Identify market anomalies and communicate potential physical and forward market changes.
  • Utilize fundamental and technical data to create predictive models for forward market views.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and brokers to assess their perspectives on commodity markets and integrate those insights into Phillips 66's market outlook.
  • Convey findings from external studies and market perspectives to assist traders in effectively executing trading strategies.
  • Recognize and communicate geopolitical and regulatory factors that influence price fluctuations.
  • Lead the information gathering process and develop presentation materials as required.
  • Share knowledge openly and enhance peer understanding of niche markets.
  • Oversee ad-hoc projects and analyses related to market fundamentals (including infrastructure developments) to support trading ideas.
Required Qualifications:
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • 3 or more years of experience in commercial/trading or related roles within the energy sector
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, economics, or agriculture
  • 3 or more years of experience in Natural Gas markets
  • 3 or more years of experience in market analysis
  • 3 or more years of experience in a trading environment
  • Some exposure to business development initiatives
  • Familiarity with environmental regulatory frameworks
  • Understanding of commercial trading operations
  • Knowledge of global commodity trading
  • Insights into refining and petrochemical sectors
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Ability to lead and actively engage in cross-functional teams
  • Commitment to supporting internal stakeholders in business needs
