Position Summary:
The Radiation Therapist plays a crucial role in delivering radiation therapy treatments safely and effectively, utilizing advanced linear accelerators such as TrueBeam and Edge. This position involves meticulous recording and verification of treatment software, as well as patient simulation in alignment with the directives of radiation oncologists.

Key Responsibilities:
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Performing routine, complex, and specialized procedures, alongside the integration and administration of new technologies.
  • Conducting intricate patient procedures, which may include stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSRT), and utilizing ARIA electronic radiation oncology software.
  • Preparing treatment rooms to ensure optimal patient positioning.
  • Clearly explaining all procedures to patients, reinforcing the guidance provided by radiation oncologists and nursing staff regarding skin care, dietary needs, and overall well-being.
  • Monitoring patients' emotional and physical responses to treatment.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Adhering to hospital-wide customer service initiatives.
  • Maintaining knowledge of equipment, reviewing patient charts, and ensuring accurate patient records are kept up to date.
  • Engaging in ongoing education to meet professional standards.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A degree from an accredited radiography program or equivalent.
  • A high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or an equivalent body.
  • A current New York State license in Radiologic Technology.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Continuing education credentials to meet professional standards.
  • The ability to identify and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

  • Proficiency in English communication, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with peers to deliver precise and effective treatment.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills, particularly regarding treatment setup accuracy.
  • The capacity to perform well under pressure.

Physical and Mental Demands:
Candidates should be prepared for potential exposure to chemicals necessary for job functions. A comprehensive list of hazardous materials is available through the hospital's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database.

Physical requirements include:

  • Using hands to manipulate tools and controls.
  • Standing, walking, or running for extended periods.
  • Bending or twisting the body as needed.
  • Making quick, precise adjustments to machinery.
  • Coordinating movements of multiple limbs while stationary.

Patient Population:
