Position Overview

The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care to both hospitalized patients and outpatients. This role involves close collaboration with patients, their families, healthcare colleagues, and physicians to ensure optimal respiratory health. The therapist evaluates patients' respiratory requirements, formulates care plans, implements therapeutic interventions, and assesses outcomes in alignment with the healthcare facility's standards and protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Adhere to established Performance Standards, Policies, and Professional Conduct.
  2. Initiate and monitor mechanical ventilation, both invasive and non-invasive.
  3. Administer various breathing therapies and conduct thorough patient assessments.
  4. Execute postural drainage, percussion, and bronchial hygiene procedures.
  5. Perform bedside pulmonary function tests.
  6. Conduct blood gas sampling and analysis, ensuring proper maintenance and quality control of blood gas analyzers.
  7. Respond effectively to cardiac emergencies and Rapid Response situations, including performing CPR.
  8. Upon demonstrating proficiency, obtain certification for emergency endotracheal intubation in adult patients.
  9. Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Possess a valid New York State Respiratory Therapy license and be credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Hold current BLS/CPR certification; NRP and ACLS certifications are highly recommended.

Effective communication and decision-making skills are essential. The candidate should be organized, capable of prioritizing tasks, detail-oriented, demonstrate sound judgment, and possess the ability to work independently.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Ability to transport and lift heavy medical gas cylinders.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals necessary for job functions, with access to the hospital's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database for information on hazardous materials.

  • Infants (29 days - less than 1 year)
  • Patients with developmental delays

  • Patients at end of life

  • Geriatric patients (65 years and older)
  • Bariatric patients with weight-related comorbidities
  • Non-patient care population

Salary Range: $89,505 - $113,100 (Based on Full-Time Employment)

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position and may be adjusted in the future based on various factors.
