Position Overview

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care to both inpatients and outpatients. This role involves collaboration with patients, their families, healthcare professionals, and physicians to assess and address respiratory needs effectively.

Key Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include:

  1. Adhering to established performance standards, policies, and professional behaviors.
  2. Initiating and overseeing mechanical ventilation, both invasive and non-invasive.
  3. Administering various forms of breathing therapies and conducting thorough patient assessments.
  4. Executing postural drainage, percussion, and bronchial hygiene techniques.
  5. Performing bedside pulmonary function tests.
  6. Conducting blood gas punctures and analyses, while maintaining and ensuring quality control of blood gas analyzers.
  7. Responding to cardiac emergencies and Rapid Response situations, including performing CPR.
  8. Upon demonstrating proficiency, obtaining certification in emergency endotracheal intubation for adult patients.
  9. Completing all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Possession of a valid New York State Respiratory Therapy license and credentialing as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Current certification in BLS/CPR.
  • NRP and ACLS certifications are highly recommended.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong communication and decision-making skills, be well-organized, and possess the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Attention to detail, sound judgment, and the capability to work independently are essential.

Physical and Mental Demands

Applicants must be able to transport and lift heavy medical gas cylinders and may be exposed to necessary chemicals for performing required tasks. Information regarding any hazardous chemicals can be accessed through the hospital's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database.
