Job Summary

The Clinical Staff Leader is a key member of the Nursing leadership team, responsible for leading a cohort of staff members and actively participating in overall management of the unit. The primary focus of the Clinical Staff Leader is to ensure the unit's optimal performance by engaging in effective problem-solving for staff, patients, and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with and contribute to the professional development of their cohort and other staff as needed.
  • Define standards for quality patient care.
  • Develop, manage, and evaluate area-based work team performance.
  • Manage multiple projects and ongoing work activities, maintaining alignment with strategic plans and vision.
  • Act as a clinical leader, facilitating education for staff on clinical standards and providing guidance and coaching to subordinates and peers within clinical specialties.
  • Ensure clinical assignments are based on patient care needs and demonstrated staff competencies.
Technical Capabilities
  • Clinical Expertise: Demonstrates mastery of patient care, including patient assessment and treatment, care planning, patient education, and evidence-based practice.
  • Quality Management: Has provided continuous analysis and evaluation of assignment work processes, striving for improvement in the way tasks and activities are accomplished.
  • Business Results: Implements measures for attaining business results and tracks progress in meeting goals and objectives.
  • Operations Planning: Demonstrates ability to realistically anticipate resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility.
  • People Management: Conducts performance reviews, effectively delegates tasks to others, and coaches subordinates on technical and interpersonal topics.
  • Leadership: Sets the example in challenging and difficult situations, demonstrates different leadership styles, and communicates team and unit goals clearly.
  • Compliance: Can explain and apply basic statutory instructions in normal situations on the job.
