Job Summary

The Academic Support Specialist II is a part-time position responsible for providing academic support to students in economics. The successful candidate will have a strong command of the subject matter and be able to communicate it effectively to students using a variety of methods and teaching tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supplement students' understanding and command of the course material for which the students are seeking assistance, outside of class.
  • Tutor for introductory courses in discipline area of expertise only.
  • Help students to develop and apply appropriate learning and study skills.
  • Meet with students at appointed time.
Administrative and Clerical Functions
  • Maintain documentation of all tutoring sessions.
  • Generate department reports for tutoring and maintain documentation of department tutoring interactions.
  • Provide course instructor(s) with communication/information that can be used to facilitate student learning of course content.
  • Proficient use and implementation of the College's tutoring software.
Continuous Learning
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the course material, as well as multiple instructional methodologies, to accommodate various student learning styles.
  • Attend tutor training sessions.
  • Provide support to LSS, LSS1, Peer Tutors & Supplemental Instructional Leaders.
  • Assist with technical support of tutoring software and reports.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Economics or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of teaching and/or tutoring economics experience in a higher education environment.
Additional License Requirements
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
