Position Overview
AXIS' Wholesale Lower Middle Market division is in search of a motivated individual to join a strategic team of professional underwriters in a rapidly expanding sector of the Excess and Surplus Lines industry. Under the guidance of the Executive Vice President (EVP) and Vice President (VP), the selected candidate will operate within established frameworks to actively market, analyze, review, evaluate, and monitor new and renewal Excess and Surplus Primary Casualty accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite a profitable portfolio of middle market surplus lines Primary Casualty risks, utilizing analytical skills to assess acceptability.
  • Analyze General Liability pricing adequacy and establish appropriate terms and conditions for various classes, including Commercial Contractors, Manufacturers, Distributors, and Service Industries.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions in a competitive environment with a diverse range of wholesale brokers.
  • Employ strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Develop and maintain a profitable book of business aligned with strategic business plans while ensuring a diversified mix to achieve growth and profit objectives.
  • Implement a nationwide marketing strategy that aligns with the risk appetite of the Lower Middle Market Primary Casualty division and the wholesale brokers producing desired accounts.
  • Adapt to changes in long-term and short-term business strategies to meet profitability goals.
  • Provide recommendations to EVP and VP regarding market strategy, product development, and departmental efficiencies.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay informed about national, state, and regional regulations, industry trends, and activities.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to ongoing underwriting training initiatives.

Qualifications
A bachelor's degree is required, with CPCU, AU, and/or ASLI designations considered advantageous. Candidates should possess a minimum of three to five years of experience in standard lines primary casualty or Excess and Surplus primary casualty underwriting. Strong negotiation and business development skills, along with established relationships with wholesale brokers, are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate technical proficiency and possess a comprehensive understanding of insurance coverage, underwriting principles, practices, and procedures.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is competitive, reflecting the candidate's experience and location.
