Position: Surgical Oncologist (General Surgeon with a focus on Hepatobiliary and Oncologic Surgeries)

Overview: We are in search of a proficient General Surgeon with a specialization in Surgical Oncology, particularly in hepatobiliary surgery and other oncologic surgical interventions. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in both general and cancer-related surgical procedures, addressing malignancies of the liver, bile ducts, pancreas, as well as prevalent carcinomas like colorectal, gastric, and esophageal cancers. This role necessitates a dedication to holistic cancer management, teamwork with multidisciplinary professionals, and active participation in clinical and educational advancements in the field of surgical oncology.

Core Responsibilities:

Surgical Expertise:

  • Execute a variety of general surgical operations, including but not limited to appendectomies, hernia repairs, and cholecystectomies, along with other elective or urgent surgical interventions.
  • Specialize in oncological procedures for hepatobiliary cancers, such as liver resections, bile duct surgeries, and pancreatic surgeries.
  • Oversee management of additional common surgical malignancies, including colorectal resections, gastric surgeries, and esophageal cancer operations.
  • Formulate and implement tailored surgical strategies for patients, merging general and specialized oncologic methodologies.

Patient Care:

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including detailed patient histories, physical examinations, imaging evaluations, and diagnostic tests for a wide spectrum of cancers.
  • Deliver expert post-operative management, addressing complications, ensuring optimal recovery, and providing patient education regarding cancer treatments and preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, gastroenterologists, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive care for patients with diverse malignancies.

Team Collaboration:

  • Engage with a multidisciplinary team, including medical and radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, and nursing staff, to guarantee integrated and effective patient care.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and anticipated outcomes.

Research and Education:

  • Participate in research and clinical trials focused on various cancers, including hepatobiliary and general surgical malignancies, to enhance surgical techniques and improve patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to the education and mentorship of surgical residents and medical students, and engage in educational programs, seminars, and scholarly publications.

Job Specifications:

  • Schedule: Full-time, standard working hours
  • Call Schedule: 7 days per month
  • Credentialing: Required at the healthcare facility
  • Average Patient Load: 30 patients per clinic day
  • Patient Demographics: Predominantly adult patients with a significant geriatric population
  • Oncology Fellowship: Required
  • Certification: Board Eligible or Board Certified in General Surgery
  • Training: Completed residency in General Surgery
