Position: Surgical Oncologist (General Surgeon with specialization in Hepatobiliary and Oncologic Carcinomas)

Overview: We are in search of a proficient General Surgeon with a focus on Surgical Oncology, particularly in hepatobiliary surgery and other oncologic surgical interventions. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in both general and oncologic surgical practices, managing cancers that affect the liver, bile ducts, pancreas, and other prevalent carcinomas such as colorectal, gastric, and esophageal cancers. This position demands a dedication to holistic cancer treatment, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and active participation in clinical and academic advancements in the field of surgical oncology.

Key Responsibilities:

Surgical Expertise:

  • Conduct a variety of general surgical operations, including but not limited to appendectomies, hernia repairs, and cholecystectomies, as well as other elective or urgent surgical procedures.
  • Specialize in oncologic surgeries targeting hepatobiliary cancers, which encompass liver resections, bile duct surgeries, and pancreatic procedures.
  • Oversee the management of other prevalent surgical carcinomas, including colorectal resections, gastric surgeries, and interventions for esophageal cancer.
  • Formulate and execute personalized surgical strategies for patients, integrating both general and specialized oncologic methodologies.

Patient Care:

  • Perform comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including patient histories, physical examinations, imaging studies, and diagnostic evaluations for a variety of carcinomas.
  • Deliver expert post-operative management, addressing complications, ensuring optimal recovery, and providing patient education on cancer treatments and preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, gastroenterologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care for individuals with diverse cancer types.

Team Collaboration and Communication:

  • Engage with a multidisciplinary team, including medical and radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, and nursing staff, to ensure cohesive and effective patient care.
  • Maintain clear communication with patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment alternatives, surgical procedures, and anticipated outcomes.

Research and Education:

  • Participate in research initiatives and clinical trials focusing on various carcinomas, including hepatobiliary and general surgical malignancies, to enhance surgical techniques and improve patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to the education and mentorship of surgical residents and medical students, and engage in educational programs, seminars, and scholarly publications.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Full-time, standard working hours
  • Call Schedule: 7 days per month
  • Credentialing: Required for the hospital
  • Average Patient Load: Approximately 30 patients per clinic day
  • Patient Demographics: Predominantly adult patients, with a portion of geriatric patients
  • Fellowship: Oncology Fellowship required
  • Certification: Board Eligible or Board Certified in General Surgery
  • Training: Completed residency in General Surgery
