Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care and treatment, coordinating with the treatment team to ensure efficient and effective care.
- Assist physicians with medical examinations and implement patient health care interventions, including administering medications and performing various nursing procedures.
- Handle patient and family interactions with professionalism, care, and courtesy.
- Perform initial nursing assessments, reconcile medication records, and identify patient health care needs to implement individualized nursing interventions.
- Schedule and place orders for diagnostic tests, follow up on test results, and enter information into the electronic medical record.
- Maintain department and hospital records, recognizing and reporting adverse signs and taking authorized action.
- Practice sterile techniques, maintain emergency drug boxes, and ensure quality control of patient care equipment.
- Educate patients and staff on Radiation Oncology processes, including skin care, dietary concerns, and pain management.
- Follow up with patients after treatment completion and document in patient records.
- Administer conscious sedation and assist with protocol patient evaluations.
- Capture Evaluation and Management billing when applicable.
- Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing.
- Current license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Virginia.
- Two to three years of experience in Oncology nursing and Radiation Therapy, with knowledge of policies, procedures, and systems.
- ONS certification preferred within two years of employment.
- Ability to operate various nursing equipment, including IVAC, thermometer, suction machine, and IV/medication pumps.
- BLS required, ACLS certification preferred.
Daily exposure to radiation, which is monitored on a radiation badge. Activities are non-sedentary, requiring physical movement of patients and equipment. May be exposed to abusive or combative individuals. Must learn and apply policies regarding electrical, chemical, radiation, and back safety.
